Best Low Carb Pizza Crust Recipe
Pizza, Are You Lost To Me Forever?
Can I Eat Pizza On a Low Carb Diet?
Yes, you can! Back before my low carb days, I could eat me some pizza. I even liked the crust. I was the friend that would eat YOUR crust. After more than a few pounds gained and then lost through low carbing, I thought those days were long gone.
Don't get me wrong, I still love pizza, but to satisfy pizza cravings, I've had to search for some really good recipes that taste like, well, pizza.
While searching and testing different low carb pizza recipes, I found out there were a lot of different options. Some sounded okay, others I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. Cauliflower pizza crust? Yuck! Pizza crust made out of pork rinds? Um, no.
My first discovery of a good low carb pizza recipe did the trick. It had been so long since I'd had pizza, and this really hit the spot. Its texture is nothing like a traditional pizza. It's soft and it has to be eaten with a fork. But it's easy and fast to make with everyday ingredients you can find in your grocery store. It's still the recipe I go to when I want pizza fast and without any extra work.
That recipe was good, but I wanted something better. I wanted the full pizza experience. I wanted a pizza that had a bread-like texture that you could pick up and eat with your hands.
Low Carb Pizza Crust Made With Almond Flour
After experimenting for a bit, I came across this recipe. It looked good, it looked bready-like, it looked like pizza, so I gave it a shot. Oh my, gosh, It tasted great. My quest for great pizza was over. You can pick this pizza up and eat it with your hands, just like a regular pizza. My inner pizza lover was satisfied.
This recipe does require almond flour, which can be difficult to locate if you don't live near a health food store. The rest of the ingredients are standard staples you probably already have in your kitchen.
Also, to bake the pizza you will need parchment paper. The success of this recipe depends on it. It's not something you can leave out and use just a pizza pan. I know, I've tried it. You can't use waxed paper. I know, I've tried that, too. Just use parchment paper and in no time you'll be a happy pizza eater.
Ready to make your pizza and taste for yourself? Well, let's get started!
Pizza Crust Made With Almond Flour
What You'll Need
- 3 Cups Almond Flour
- 1/2 Parmesan Cheese, Grated
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Italian Seasoning
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 Cup Sour Cream
- 1 Egg
Getting Started
First, preheat your oven to 350°F. Next, line your pan with the parchment paper.
Let's Get Mixing
Tip:
For extra flavor, I often add a tablespoon of chopped garlic to my pizza dough.
To your 3 cups of almond flour, add the 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, 1 tsp Italian seasoning, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp baking soda and mix well
Adding The Wet Ingredients
To your dry ingredients, add the 1 cup sour cream and 1 egg. Mix well. The dough will be very wet and sticky. Don't worry, this is normal.
This Does Not Look Like Dough!
Now it's time to shape your pizza dough. No, it doesn't look like the pizza dough you're used to, but trust me, it will turn out all right in the end.
Scoop your pizza dough onto the pizza pan that you've already lined with parchment paper. Now it's time to get your hands dirty. Gently pat the dough out flat until it is your desired thickness. If it gets too sticky, you can put a little oil on your hands. Don't use too much though, the extra oil will make your dough too brown and hard when it's cooked. Trust me, that's experience talking.
Your Pizza Dough Should Look Like This:
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes or until it's brown all over and the edges are crispy.Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
Spread pizza sauce on your crust. Now it's time to add your toppings. The sky is the limit when it comes to toppings. Today I was in the mood for pepperoni, mushrooms, onions, and cheese.
Return to the oven and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes or until your cheese is brown and bubbly.
Hey, That Looks Like Pizza!
Does It Pass The Test?
